Life After Preferred

Your pipeline, your platform

If you’re leaving Zillow’s Preferred partner program, or thinking about it, the practical question isn’t whether Zillow is good or bad. It’s what stops working the day you leave, and what you put in its place.

Two things end with Preferred: your free access to Zillow Pro, and the referral flow that came with the program. Everything after that is your call. Here’s what actually changes, and what it takes to run your own stack instead.

What actually changes when you leave

Leaving Preferred is simpler than it sounds. Three things move.

Free Zillow Pro access ends

Preferred partner agents get Zillow Pro, the suite that bundles Follow Up Boss, My Agent, and Agent Profiles, at no extra cost through 2026. Leave the program and that free access ends with it. If you want to keep using Follow Up Boss as your CRM, you'd be paying Zillow directly, reported at $138/mo for a single seat.

Referral flow stops

The leads that came through Preferred came through Preferred. Once you're out, that channel is gone, and lead flow has to come from somewhere you control: your own site, your own database, your own follow-up.

One company, two roles

While you're in Preferred, your CRM vendor and your lead source are the same company. For some agents that's fine, even convenient. For others, especially agents who are stepping back specifically to run an independent business, it's the reason to leave in the first place. Worth being honest with yourself about which one you are.

The math

Here’s what the two paths actually cost, side by side.

Staying on Zillow’s stack
Zillow Pro
  • Reported at $138/mo for a single seat (scaled pricing for teams and brokerages)
  • Bundles Follow Up Boss (CRM), My Agent, and Agent Profiles
  • My Agent and Agent Profiles are Zillow-platform features: they extend your presence on Zillow specifically, not a standalone website
Running your own
ListingStack
  • $69/mo Agent, or $149/mo Pro Concierge (founding price, $199 after)
  • Flat pricing, not per seat
  • CRM (contacts, buyer and seller pipelines, deals), your own agent website with lead capture, AI concierge that replies to inbound leads by email within minutes, email nurture drips, document generation, self-serve appointment booking, seller report dashboards
  • 14-day free trial, no card required

We don’t replicate Zillow-platform features like My Agent or Agent Profiles, because those only do anything if your business runs through Zillow. If it still does, and you’re happy with that, Zillow Pro may genuinely be the right fit. This page is for the agent who wants the other option.

Rebuild a pipeline you own

If you’re stepping away from a portal-owned lead source, here’s what replaces it, in the order it starts working.

  1. 1.
    Your own agent site

Every ListingStack plan includes a public agent website with lead capture built in. Your listings, your name, your brand on it, not a portal's. Already own a domain? We'll help you set up forwarding so it sends visitors straight to your ListingStack site, and the address on your signs and cards keeps working.

  2. 2.
AI concierge that answers in minutes

New inquiries get an AI-written reply by email within minutes, day or night. You can watch it work on the live demo. Speed to lead matters most in the first few minutes, and this is the part you don't have to staff yourself.

  3. 3.
Nurture drips for the long game

Not every lead is ready this month. Email drips keep long-timeline contacts warm automatically, so the pipeline you're building doesn't go cold while you're out showing houses.

  4. 4.
    Booking that fills your calendar

Leads can book time directly on your agent site, no back-and-forth. It lands on your calendar, not in a portal's queue.

Staying through 2026? Read this anyway

If you’re staying in Preferred for now, nothing here is urgent. But Zillow’s own release states free Zillow Pro access runs “through 2026,” not indefinitely. It’s worth pricing out your options before that window closes rather than after, so the decision is yours and not a renewal deadline’s.

Common questions

  • Who owns Follow Up Boss?

Zillow. It announced the acquisition on November 1, 2023 and completed it December 8, 2023. In October 2025, Zillow announced Zillow Pro, a suite bundling Follow Up Boss with My Agent and Agent Profiles.

  • If I leave the Preferred program, do I lose my contacts?

No. What ends with Preferred is the free access to Zillow Pro; Follow Up Boss still sells standalone plans, so you can keep your account and your data by paying directly (confirm plan details with them when you leave). And if you decide to move to ListingStack instead, we offer free white-glove migration for founding customers at listing-stack.com/switch.

  • What does Zillow Pro actually cost?

Zillow hasn't published pricing directly. Trade press has reported $138/mo for a single seat, with scaled pricing for teams and brokerages. Preferred partner agents get it free through 2026 as a program benefit.

  • How fast can I be up and running on ListingStack?

Same day. Sign up for the 14-day free trial, no card required, and your CRM, agent site, and AI concierge are live immediately. If you're migrating from another platform, we'll move your contacts for you at no cost as a founding customer.
